Question:

I I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and will begin chemo in the next few weeks. I am advised that I will lose my hair and will need a wig. I am unsure as to when I should purchase it, and what type of wig I should get. What do you recommend?

Answer:

There are so many wig lines and styles today that the selection process for the proper wig can be overwhelming for most. They all breakdown to a few simple categories of base construction and then there is the decision of human hair vs. synthetic. Human being the most natural, but there are many synthetic wigs that look and feel as beautiful as human, therefore, providing wig solutions for all budgets.

Hair loss usually begins 15 days to 3 weeks after the first treatment session. I recommend you obtain your wig prior to starting treatments and/or losing your hair. You may be too fatigued once you begin your treatments and you will want your hair ready for you the day it is needed. This is also helpful to your “Comfort Program” consultant as she has the opportunity to match your new wig to your current style, color and density so that you will continue to look like yourself through your treatment and healing process. In addition to helping guide you through your wig selection, she can also assist you in selecting other products you will need such as scarfs, sleep caps, and scalp products that will help relieve any discomfort during your shedding period.
